Inflation is raising the price of almost everything we buy.

It is costing the average American family about $800 a month more to live than last year. These estimates are not mine but based on recent published reports you can find anywhere.

But you don’t need a report to know which direction things are going.

Look no further than The Labor Department telling us that “Halloween candy will cost 13% more than compared to last year.”

There’s always Thanksgiving, right?

Not really, I’m sorry to say.

One in five Americans are unsure if they will be able to cover the cost of Thanksgiving this year, and one in four plan to skip it to save money, a recent Personal Capital survey found.

All I can say is please help someone out this season if you can.

Every household is struggling to cope

But is the solution going to be about working longer hours or taking on a second or even a third job just to cope.

No, it’s about being honest with yourself and getting creative to find ways to finance the life you enjoy rather than compliantly trudging through.

Why shouldn’t that be how we look at the way to persevere through trying times?

Otherwise, I have to question… what’s the point?

In other words, absolutely adjust to current circumstances, however, do so without surrendering to them.

More than ever

I have personally been hearing from many of you who want to get moving on a plan to ensure a more predictable and secure future.

Better late than never.

The change is at hand and there is no time to wait.

The price of waiting until the last minute is lost time, money, and opportunity

It’s out there if you’re looking

Which brings me to something I would like to point out for informational purposes only..

In my line of work, Princess Parties, I can cover that $800 monthly cost of living increase by doing 3 to 4 parties a month. That’s working about 8 hours a month on weekends.

Following a good system to ensure quality and consistency, it wouldn’t take long for you to achieve that and much more if you wanted to.

As I have said many times this should be a high profit business because you can charge top dollar for the unique service while keeping a lid on costs.

Always remember, kids and their parents just want to have fun and be treated to a unique experience. They are not there to inspect the fine china.

So, for example, if in my business I am able to make a 40% profit on a party that I can charge $450 for, you can see how a few parties a month can overcome the bite that inflation has taken out of your budget and allow you to keep doing things you enjoy.

Anyway, that’s my experience

There is something for everyone, but you are not going to know what that is until you go and find out what might work for you.

In my opinion, the wisest thing to have on your list would be to invest in yourself to develop a different stream of income that doesn’t depend on an employer, or anyone or anything else but your own intelligence, creativity, and hard work.

Once you take the first step, you’re halfway there, so don’t wait until the last minute to get started. Why run the risk of losing an opportunity to grow more self reliant.

One thing is for sure. A feeling of self reliance is one you’ll want to become accustomed to.
