It’s been said that in life there will be trials. How about trial by fire with no prior notice?

Invariably it seems, when you have the fastball timed, you never saw the curveball coming. A little inside baseball from my dad.

Chris Widener is a motivational speaker, business, and life coach to titans of industry, and the author of numerous books and over 450 articles. He was at the plate expecting one down the middle when he got the breaking pitch instead.

I should say it was his mom at-bat, and by his account, her knees did not buckle.

In an article called “Success Lessons, I Learned from My Single Mom,” Widener describes the affluent life his family had until his father suddenly came down with cancer at a very young age and died 6 months later.

The dream lifestyle collapsed without notice and was headed for a crash landing. Although his dad made a lot of money for the day, he didn’t keep much of it. There was little left behind for his family to survive on after his death at 41.

In Chris’s recounting, they went from very comfortable upper middle class to lower middle within a matter of a few months.

The telling aspect of Widener’s journey is how his now single mother looked danger in the eye and took action.

From a tumultuous and often troubled childhood and adolescence, Widener found his bearings to become one of the most successful and sought after consultants in the business world. He credits much of his success to lessons learned from his mother.

He talks about her ability to believe in herself, sacrifice for others, and under enormous stress, cast aside the unfortunate cards she had been dealt and make the most of the situation.

For a child to witness this example of courage and adult behavior from a mother suddenly under trial by fire, it is no wonder that Chris managed to navigate the anger over his father passing, and go on to accomplish great things in life.

There are other important lessons he learned from his single mom, namely to have a dream and pursue it all costs.

I believe in pursuing a dream. It landed me in the Princess Tea Party business, making dreams come true for little girls who want to feel like a special princess for a day. It is the best career decision I could have made.

If a little courage is all you lack, go ahead, step to the plate. Sometimes that’s all it takes.

The Princess Tea Party business is fun, flexible, and lucrative. Now, with nearly 20 years of experience, I am helping other women achieve the same joy and satisfaction I have experienced by offering my “Business in a Box.” It is the exact road map I followed to start and operate a successful business made easy for those interested in the business for themselves. No prior business experience is necessary, and no franchise fees. Learn More Here
